Two days of Legion in Canberra

Star Wars: Legion is a 35mm tabletop miniatures game from Atomic Mass Games. At CanCon 2027 we're running a two-day tournament with chess clocks, painting and sportsmanship awards, and the traditional Saturday night dinner.

Key dates

Lists lockWednesday 20 January 2027, 8:00pm
3D print approvalsBy 11:59pm Friday 22 January
Day 1Saturday 23 January, from 8:30am
Day 2Sunday 24 January, from 8:30am

Tickets

Players need a two-day CanCon event ticket ($60 AUD including prize pool). There's a 64-player cap, which may change at the discretion of CGS or the organising team. Lists are submitted through Longshanks — the event link will be shared once it's live.

Buying your ticket: tickets are sold by Canberra Games Society (CGS), not through this site. Find Star Wars: Legion under the Atomic Mass Games Minis Area on the CGS CanCon tournaments page and book through the Square "Book Now" link. Square adds a $2 ticketing fee per event. If the booking page doesn't load, refresh it a few times.

For refunds, email conventions@cgs.asn.au and forward your booking confirmation. The prize pool part of the ticket can't be refunded after 1 January, the Square fee is never refunded, and tickets can't be transferred.

Format and rules

The short version: bring a legal 1000-point list on Tabletop Admiral, everything you need to play, and a good attitude.

Event format

Per AMG's Tournament Regulations, the event runs as a Galactic Conquest Event: 5 rounds of Swiss, then a Top 2 cut (if applicable).

Top 2 qualification is decided by win/loss record, then tiebreakers in this order:

  1. Strength of Schedule (SOS)
  2. Auxiliary Points Scored (APS)
  3. Victory Points Scored (VPS)

Standard 1000-point lists following all list construction rules. Lists lock Wednesday 20 January 2027 at 8:00pm; no changes after that unless extenuating circumstances apply. Submit your list as a Tabletop Admiral link in the tournament software, which hides hidden information from other players.

Because Australian releases are unpredictable, any unit released before the tournament starts is legal.

What to bring
  • All tokens, models, and unit and upgrade cards you need.
  • No stand-ins (print-and-play cards and third-party prints are fine). Stand-ins include handmade models, handwritten cards, and models printed or modelled to gain an advantage.
  • Alternate 3D printed models need approval from the TO or Head Consular by 11:59pm the night before. Unapproved models can't be fielded.
  • At least one printed copy of your list, or a digital version without hidden information (battle deck, command cards). Handwritten lists must be checked by the Head Consular before the morning briefing.

There are no painting requirements, but painted armies are encouraged with significant prize support.

Awards

Best painted force. Players vote digitally on Day 2; instructions are given that morning.

Sportsmanship. After Round 5, rank your opponents on your score sheet. Each player ends up with between 10 and 20 sportsmanship points.

Best sport4 points
Second best sport3 points
Remaining opponents2 points

Think of the most enjoyable game, the opponent who held you and themselves to the rules, who helped you understand the game better, or who gave you meaningful advice. Ties are settled by Margin of Victory — winning big while your opponent still has a great time is true sportsmanship.

Most unique judge call. A prize for both players in the most memorable (positive!) judge call of the weekend, including the most creative way to get the TO's attention.

Chess clocks and rounds

Chess clocks are mandatory and explained at the morning briefing. Each player gets 75 minutes; rounds are 150 minutes including 15 minutes of setup. Play your assigned opponent on your assigned table.

  • Timed out: your opponent may use all their remaining time. You keep activating but skip Step 3 (Perform Actions), and in the Command Phase must play Standing Orders and issue only its single order.
  • Command Phase: clocks are paused until the first card is chosen; the other player is then on the clock until they commit. Pause while determining priority. Issuing orders is on your clock.
  • Activation Phase: the activating player is on the clock and passes time after flipping their command token. Only pass to the other player if they're taking considerable time on reactions.
  • End Phase: both clocks paused.
  • Locked in: once you pass time, every decision up to that point is final, including cohesion.
  • Interrupts (standby, charges, and so on): take the clock to consider them, then pass it back. Don't fast-play to force missed opportunities; it may cost sportsmanship.
  • Breaks, judge calls: both clocks may be paused. Line-of-sight checks are on the checking player's clock.

The full chess clock rules (adapted from the Las Vegas Open policy) are in the players pack appendix.

Rules disputes and conduct

Call a Judge for any rules dispute; they'll rule using the current Rules Reference Guide. If you disagree, request the Tournament Marshal, whose ruling is final. Warnings and disqualifications follow the Galactic Conquest Event Rules.

Zero tolerance. Bullying or aggression toward any player, Consular or CanCon attendee means immediate disqualification, with no warning.

Call a Consular whenever you think something's wrong, including collusion, slow play, bullying, aggressive behaviour or cheating.

Register your interest

Let us know you're coming so we can plan tables, prizes and dinner numbers. This isn't a ticket — you'll still need to buy a CanCon event ticket from CGS.
